SSGT Thomas A. Walkup Jr.
Lance Cpl Harry Swain IV
Shortly after Tom Walkup Jr. was killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan on November 23, 2003 the Millville City Commission announced plans to build a park to honor the men and women who have served in the war on terror. On January 31, 2005, the City of Millville lost its second son to the war on terror. Harry Swain IV was killed while serving in Iraq. During a ceremony at the Millville American Legion Post on February 23, 2005 the proposed park was named Patriot Park. When completed Patriot Park will honor all of our local service men and women who have served in the military. In addition to building a new park, this project will also include refurbishing the Vietnam Memorial, Springsteadah Plaza (named for the MIA Donald Springsteadah). The new park will be connected by a brick walkway. This walkway will consist of Memorial Bricks that can be purchased by an individual in memory of a loved one. The park will be located on Riverside Drive, overlooking the Maurice River at West Main Street (Route 49). The cost to build Patriot Park and refurbish the Vietnam Memorial, and Springsteadah Plaza will be approximately $150,000

Now it is time to remember those men and women who served during that time. Please Remember – This park is not intended to glorify conflicts or wars, it is to honor the men and women who have served our country during those times. If you can help, please send a contribution to the address below. Thank you all for your support. The Statue and Granite Base were dedicated in September, 2008. We have over 3,000 bricks ready to be installed as soon as the weather permits. The 5th annual Tom Walkup Jr. Poker Run was held Saturday August 9th, 2008.
